James Perse was born in Los Angeles, California in 1972. He is the son of the owner of the innovative Los Angeles boutique Maxfield. In 1991, he designed his first cap for Maxfield attracting numerous local customers such as film directors, actors and record label owners. In 1994 he launched a minimal luxe t-shirt line, which reflected L.A’s spirit and aesthetic. In 1996, James release his first womenswear collection which included knits, jackets, sweater and dresses. In 1998, the brand launched a menswear collection and later, a line for babies and children. James' design philosophy and aesthetic is low maintenance high fashion, elegance, sophistication and simplicity. In 2003, James Perse opened his first retail store and in 2007, he launched his first online shopping store, helping him spread the company's culture, ideas and values.
