Vivienne Westwood was born Vivienne Isabel Swire in Glossop, Derbyshire, on April 8, 1941. She started designing clothes in 1971 and opened her first shop named ''Let It Rock'' on the King’s Road the same year. Activist, designer and co-founder of punk with her partner Malcolm McLaren, she was declared a National Treasure for contributing to renewing English fashion and tailoring with its strong and unique identity. As a spokesperson for Greenpeace, she has never stopped fighting for freedom and maintaining her commitment to political issues and human rights. In 2007 she was awarded with Outstanding Achievement in Fashion Design at the British Fashion Awards.
