THE
INSPIRATION
COMES
FROM
YOURSELF.
We met Roman Flügel before his set at Volt, where he shared his perspective on entering the music industry and the advice he would give to emerging talents. We also spoke about his earliest memories of music and the inspiration shaping his journey.
A: How do you see music and fashion connected?
R.M: I think for me, there's a deep connection between festivals and music. Obviously, especially. I mean, it is about creativity. At the end of the day, it's a different kind of way of expressing yourself. And I think when all of that comes together, it's the perfect recipe for an amazing experience.
A: What is your first memory of music?
R.F: Well, my first memory of music is probably a band from Peru playing on the streets of my hometown. I think it was like three or four guys with a guitar, some flutes. Probably someone was singing. I think that's my first memory. I was about three or four years old back then.
A: Did you start making music in Berlin?
R.M: And now I actually started way back in my hometown, which was close to Frankfurt. Darmstadt is the name of my hometown. And then I moved to Berlin just eight years ago, I think. So I'm not a Berliner, actually.
A: How has the music scene changed?
R.M: I don't know. I think definitely in Berlin you will still have an amazing nightlife and you will have lots of like minded people. So it's probably that that makes things a bit easier. But first of all, the inspiration comes from yourself. And it's not, not everything is about the city. It's more about the people you meet, which probably happens in the city, that's for sure. But I think it's all up there, first of all.
