Kei Ninomiya graduated from Aoyama Gakuin University with a degree in French Literature, before attending Antwerp’s Royal Academy of fine Arts. The designer dropped out in 2008 to join Rei Kawakubo’s Comme des Garçons in Tokyo as a pattern cutter. In 2012 he launched his first collection under the name Noir Kei Ninomiya with the support of Comme Des Garcon's Rei Kawakubo who encouraged him to start his own label. In 2019, he created a capsule collection for Moncler Genius alongside other established designers. Kei Ninomiya’s creations are wild wonderful and extravagant yet surreal and terrifying. They avoid any type of meaning since his collections speak for themselves with a renewed appreciation for handmade garments, individualism and diversity which come to life in the form of powerful, innovative and beautiful collections.
