Alain Paul is a French Hong Kong-born designer whose family moved to France when he was 8 years old. He joined Marseille’s Opera école nationale de dance the following year before choosing to study fashion instead of ballet at the age of 18. In 2014, he joined VETEMENTS where he worked under Demna and Guram Gvasalia until 2017 before joining Virgil Abloh’s team at Louis Vuitton in 2018. Alain Paul co-founded his eponymous label in 2023 with his husband Luis Phillipe who heads the label’s strategy. He claims Virgil Abloh taught him how to deconstruct and simplify his ideas, construct and maintain a strong identity through creative freedom, encouraging him to bring the precision and discipline of dance into fashion, challenging conventional silhouettes and techniques.
